Explained: How MVNOs in Telecom Industry Reach Customers That MNOs Cannot?

The increase in competition in the telecom industry has resulted in reduced profits for MNOs (Mobile Network Operators). Hence, they have formulated different strategies to compensate for their losses. One such strategy has been to sell their unutilized voice minutes, SMS and data to MVNOs.

By definition, an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) is a type of service provider that does not own the network on which it provides services to its customer base.  With the use of MVNO billing software, it is possible to manage resources and keep track of different services along with the revenue.

The Challenge of Reaching All Customers

Diversity of customers is the main reason why large-scale telecom vendors struggle to maximize their outreach. Customers’ diversity can be attributed to:

1.      Purchasing power

2.      Age group

3.      Preferences

4.      Location

Due to the aforementioned differences between customers, it becomes hard for a telecom vendor to reach them. For instance, if you devise a policy while keeping youngsters in mind, older people may not appreciate them. And, if you increase the number of towers in a particular region, people in other regions may suffer due to poor signals. And of course, if you will raise the price of your services, subscribers from the lower-income groups may start to leave you.

MVNOs to the Rescue

The difficult situation faced by MNOs can be resolved by taking the help of MVNOs. An MVNO does not endorse the brand value of an MNO, but still uses MNO’s infrastructure to offer its own services, and then pays a part of its revenue back to MNO as the price of the service. An MVNO operates in the region of the MNO and offers his services under a completely different branding. As MVNO buys resources from MNOs at a lower price, it is able to provide services to its subscribers at a lower rate. This helps it in attracting poorer MVNO subscribers. Hence, it allows MNOs to benefit from the revenue generated by poorer subscribers. This simply would not have been possible for an MNO without the support of an MVNO.

MVNO and MVNE Partnership

An MVNE (Mobile Virtual Network Enabler) is referred to as an enabler of service as it plays a vital role in the conception of smaller MVNOs. An MVNE offers OSS/BSS solutions to the MVNOs along with setting up their virtual network. Moreover, an MVNE is able to negotiate better deals with MNOs and hence, provides resources at a lower rate to the MVNO.

With the help of MVNO software, it is possible to launch an MVNO/MVNE platform quicker than ever before. As an MVNOor MVNE, a company should look for an MVNO billing software that facilitates them in:

1.      Quick and accurate completion of billing tasks

2.      Optimizing operations for the whole company

3.      Expanding outreach of the company

4.      Enhancing the subscriber base

There are many MVNO billing software available in the market, however, the best ones are far and few in-between. This is why; you should scan the software solutions available thoroughly and only then make a selection.
